Remembrance - Veterans want Canadians to understand the price of freedom. They are passing the torch to the people of Canada, so the memory of their sacrifices will continue and the values they fought for will live on in all of us. Our Remembrance activities begin this Wednesday, October 21st at 2 PM in the Branch, with presentation of poppies to members of the local senior's club. Legion members are invited to help welcoming our guests and to enjoy coffee, tea and cake.
The 2026 Poppy Campaign begins on Saturday October 24th and runs through to Remembrance Day, Wednesday, November 11th.
Branch 161 members will be at the Superstore display Monday to Friday from 10am to 8pm, and at Tim Hortons Mondays to Fridays 9 am to 1pm. Cadets will help distribute poppies on the weekends.
Branch 161's Remembrance Church service is on Sunday November 1st beginning at 11:00am at the Foundation Baptist Church, 4300 Highway 7. Everyone is welcome. Please arrive no later than 10:45 to hang your coat and join your comrades entering the church.
Honour Roll is on Sunday, November 8th at 2pm. This Ceremony is dedicated to the memory of our comrades who are no longer with us. Each name will be read aloud as white crosses are displayed under our Tulip Tree to symbolize their once presence. Families and friends are encouraged to attend, reminisce and enjoy the camaraderie our loved ones once shared at the Branch. We hope you will join us for this very special day. Seating will be available. Light refreshments will be served immediately following the ceremony inside the Legion.
Our Remembrance Day Ceremony is at the Porters Lake Cenotaph on Wednesday, November 11, 2026 10:45am to 11:45. Military Parade, local wreath and cross placements, community participation and perhaps low-level Canadian Armed Forces fly-past approved by HRM. Following service attendees are invited back to RCL Legion branch 161 for refreshments and comradeship.

The ticket holder of Friday, October 16th Chase the Ace Draw, won $55.00 but missed picking the Ace. The October 9th Jackpot will build on $1,794.00. Tickets are sold Sunday thru Thursday, between 2 and 4pm, and from 2 to 6 pm on Friday
There is an Acoustic Jam session every Tuesday at 2 to 4 PM. Bring your instrument to play or just listen. A pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
The next Hootenany is on Sunday, October 25th. 2 till 5pm. Chilli and home made roll will be available from our kitchen for the very low price of $ 6.00

If every member gives two hours of their time manning the donation tables, just imagine how much direct assistance for our community veterans and their families we can provide.
