President’s Christmas Message
Comrades,
As we approach the end of 2024, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the year’s accomplishments and express my gratitude for the unwavering support and dedication each of you has shown to our shared mission.
This year, we achieved a significant victory with the successful revision of the License Plate criteria, particularly the removal of the three-year requirement. This change represents a meaningful step forward in recognizing and honoring the service of our Veterans.
This year, we returned to Grand Parade to host a successful Remembrance Service. This event served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our brave Veterans, and I’m proud of the turnout and deep respect shown by our membership.
Our advocacy work continues to be at the forefront of our efforts. We have made our concerns known to Dominion Command, the Provincial Government and the General Public regarding Veterans' Long-Term Care, and we will persist in pushing for improvements.
I am also proud of the progress we’ve made in opening the dialogue around the formation of Legions in First Nations communities. There are many Indigenous Veterans that have never reached out for support. We look forward to further discussions in the New Year, and we are committed to ensuring that every Veteran, no matter where they live, has the support and recognition that our Veterans so deserve.
I had the privilege of attending many events within our Command, including a recent visit to Branch 168 in Iqaluit. I want to extend my deepest thanks for the warmth and hospitality shown to me. It was an eye-opening experience and a reminder of the incredible work our Legions do within their communities throughout our entire Command. I am continuously inspired by the strength and commitment of this organization.
In addition, we marked significant milestones this year, including RCAF 100, D-Day +80, and the 55th Anniversary of the Kootenay Explosion. We stood together in remembrance and solidarity, honouring the legacy of those who served.
To all Members, Executive Council, and all of our Staff, I thank you, for all that you do and have done in meeting and overcoming the challenges in 2024. May 2025 be a year of Growth, Prosperity and Happiness for all.
Happy Holidays Comrades,
Sincerely,
Don McCumber
